Why Freedom Speak International Exists“Be part of change.”

My name is João Macongo, and I am the president of Freedom Speak International.

This nonprofit organization register as charity was born from my personal story—a story of hardship, displacement, and resilience. I come from Angola, a nation with deep history and rich culture, but also one that has faced political repression and social injustice. For speaking the truth, for standing up for justice and creative freedom, I was persecuted in my homeland. I was forced to leave behind everything familiar—family, friends, and my life’s work—to seek safety and opportunity in Canada.

Canada gave me something powerful: freedom—the freedom to speak, to create, to rebuild. But I also saw that many others, like me, carried deep talent, powerful voices, and untold stories—but lacked support, platforms, and visibility. That’s why we created Freedom Speak International.

This is not just a nonprofit. It is a movement—to uplift the voices of immigrant and refugee artists, writers, poets, musicians, painters, and activists. It is a home for creative expression, cultural truth, and artistic freedom—regardless of your background, race, or country of origin.

We are here to amplify silenced voices, to make sure no talent is lost to exile, poverty, or invisibility. We support artists directly—with editing, translating, publishing, promotion, and public engagement. We build bridges between cultures. We tell the stories that the world needs to hear.
