Freedom Speak International Launches to Empower Immigrants and Refugees Through Art
Celebrating unity, cultural preservation, and social change in Toronto
Toronto, ON — Sept 2, 2025 — Freedom Speak International, a pioneering organization dedicated to empowering immigrants and refugees through artistic expression, celebrated its successful launch event in Toronto. The gathering highlighted the transformative role of art in preserving culture, fostering unity, and driving social change.
The event drew diverse community members and leaders who shared in the vision of creating spaces where immigrant and refugee voices are not only heard but amplified through creative expression. “The time for only talking is over — it is now the time for action,” said João Macongo, one of the founders of Freedom Speak International. “Freedom Speak International was created to support, preserve, and elevate art as one of the greatest ways to teach and carry culture.”
The launch’s success was made possible through the invaluable support of key partners. A Different Booklist https://www.adifferentbooklist.com/, one of Canada’s most diverse bookstores, provided a literary lens into cultural empowerment. CHOQ-FM French Radio 105.1 https://choqfm.ca/, represented by journalist Annette Minka, helped broadcast the message of unity to a broader audience. Freedom Speak International also proudly recognized the presence of New Nakfa https://www.newnakfa.com/, an organization devoted to supporting Eritrean immigrants in Canada.
A special note of appreciation was extended to the Government of Canada and the City of Toronto https://www.toronto.ca/, whose ongoing commitment to inclusivity and cultural advancement continues to inspire hope and opportunity for immigrant and refugee communities.
The event concluded with a renewed call to action: to unite around the arts as a bridge between cultures and as a platform for empowerment. “This launch is only the beginning,” Macongo added. “With collective effort, we can transform the immigrant and refugee experience into one that celebrates resilience, creativity, and belonging.”
